How comes that some important leagues seem to be missing?
The statistics featured at soccerSTATS.com are made up from raw result data provided on a voluntarily basis by contributors. If the league you were expected to see on this site is missing, it is certainly because no contributor has offered to cover it yet. We welcome contributions for all soccer leagues worldwide. If you are interested in managing a league for soccerSTATS.com, please take a look at the contributors page for details.
How are the result predictions calculated?
The result predictions are calculated based on the estimated strenght of the teams calculated from the current season's matches.
There is NO historical data older than the current season involved in the calculation. That's why the predictions on the first match
of the season look funny.
The value of that type of pure mathematical prediction method is that it remains consistent and totally offsets any kind of emotional
factor in the calculation of the probabilities, because the software is not a supporter of any of the team for which it predict results! :)
However, those predictions should not be considered as strong enough to accurately predict the outcome of any match.
The predictions need to be balanced with other statistics, which can also be found on the site.
Also, the calculated predictions do not take into account important factors like player injuries and suspensions, or how badly does a team need
to win a match (sometimes the "stronger" team only needs a draw and will try get just that). The prediction engine does not detect when the manager instructs
their players not to take risks before certain matches, just because there is a more important match coming up after.... and all that sort of things :)
All in all, the predictions at SoccerSTATS.com are just there to be part of the equation, when trying to predict the outcome of a match.
It's just an indication.
I am looking for very specific piece of information/statistics about a league, team or player and I don't seem to find it on this site. Where else could I look for it?
For historical statistics, you may find what you are looking for at the following amazing site: RSSSF Archive. Another great resource for historical data is Histora.org. That site contains a wealth of information and statistics on international soccer. If you still cannot find the information you're looking for, try polling the soccerstats.com community by sending a message, as detailed as possible, to the Forum.
